In 2005, the investigative focus of SDI scientific research and clinical teams will be:

• The use of proteomics and genomics to advance the identification of new therapeutic modalities for the treatment of diabetes and its complications.
• Conduct investigational clinical uses of chronic intermittent intravenous insulin therapy
• Maintain an internationally recognized diabetes educational and information center that provides broad scope services for patients with diabetes and professionals working in diabetes.
• Conduct clinical trials aimed at determining physiological causes for health disparities in ethnically diverse populations, such as African Americans and Hispanics.
• Investigate mechanisms operant in nerve regeneration.
• Investigate role of reactive oxygen species in the etiology and resolution of neuropathy.
• Elucidate regulatory mechanisms of cutaneous blood flow.
• Study the Effects of long-term and short-term exercise on neurovascular dysfunction.
