Defies the Deluge!

Okay, the spell of perfect weather was partially broken - the weather wasn't picture perfect this year. Steel-colored skies brought flooding rains that blanketed the entire Tri-State area – except for Montammy Country Club. A sprinkle or two during the shot-gun start didn't dampen the spirits of golfers who had braved drenched roadways to come to the 14th Annual Lee Mazzilli Celebrity Golf Classic. The rest of the day was overcast, but dry, and all the teams had a wonderful time on the course.

This year's event honored baseball greats Yogi Berra and Don Larsen, former teammates on the New York Yankees. Last year's honoree, Whitey Ford, attended with fellow former Yankees Dave Cone, Rick Cerone, Mitch Williams and Dave LaPoint.

Football greats Mark Gastineau, Bruce Harper, and OJ Anderson joined the line-up of sports celebrities.

Screen celebs were well represented with Tony LoBianco, Gianni Russo, and Joe Sirola attending.

Comedians Dick Capri, Jeff Perrami and Jack Fontana continued the tradition of bringing side-splitting hilarity to the evenings festivities with Stewie Stone as emcee.

Chris Franco, presented the annual Sal Franco award to Barbara and David Pope for their leadership and commitment to the fight against diabetes.

Congratulations to the New York Chapter whose committee members surmounted the weather to produce another successful event that raised $110,000 for diabetes research at the Strelitz Diabetes Institutes.
